The week of the Democratic National Convention is quickly approaching: a week filled with blocked roads, political figures, and major events and demonstrations. The approaching DNC has excited (or exasperated) many of us who are interested in politics or live in the Charlotte area. Although most people will be scurrying off to this luncheon or that fundraiser, we are hoping to have many pro-choice activists help us defend Charlotte-area clinics.
Operation Save America has promised to bring masses of people out to the clinics to harass and intimidate women as they enter during the week of the Democratic National Convention. Furthermore, OSA’s leader Flip Benham was recently granted a new trail from his 2011 conviction of stalking a Charlotte area abortion provider. This might mean an even bigger zoo outside of the clinic now that he is able to excite his base. We are worried that the anti-choice groups that will be there to protest the DNC will make their way to the clinics, enlarging the already high number of people outside of the clinics yelling at patients and blocking the driveway.
We need people to help us defend these clinics! Please join us outside of Family Reproductive Health at 8am on Saturday 9/1, Wednesday 9/5, Friday 9/7, and Saturday 9/8 with the Saturdays being the most important. It is so vital to have pro-choice advocates standing up for abortion access and providing patients with positive energy and support to counterbalance the hatred and harassment they face from anti-choicers when they come to the clinics. It means so much to the doctors, staff, and patients to see that they are supported by the community. And while the national spotlight will be shining on Charlotte, let’s show our support for abortion clinics and women’s reproductive health. See you there!
