Most of us have had some time to reflect on the work done this election season, but now it is time to strategize and mobilize to fight for the changes we have worked towards. What better venue than the National Young Feminist Leadership Conference! This time the conference is the weekend of March 23-25, 2013 at the Double Tree Crystal City in Arlington, Virginia, just outside of the nation’s capital. As we have in the past, we will have our conference with speakers and workshops on Saturday and Sunday. We’ll wrap up the conference with a Capitol Hill visit day on Monday.
Early online registration is open, so get your head counts lined up this month! Registration fees include the weekend as well as the Monday visit, and are posted up on our conference website.
The National Young Feminist Leadership Conference is an exciting opportunity to congregate with over 500 feminist student activists from across the country. Network with our speakers, who are feminist members of Congress, nonprofit leaders, doctors, lawyers, bloggers, community activists and students! Workshops will be all day Saturday, March 23, and Sunday, March 24, which will give you motivation and education to bring the issues most important to you to your representatives on Capitol Hill day Monday the 25th.
At the conference we’ll share the latest developments in feminist political activism around domestic and global women’s health, reproductive rights, voter participation, gender-based violence, LGBTQ rights and more. In addition, we hope that you collaborate with others and share your activist ideas and group building tips with other students.
We are currently acquiring speakers and other logistics for the conference, and will let you know who is speaking as soon as speakers are confirmed!
Past speakers have included:
- Eleanor Smeal, president of the Feminist Majority Foundation
- Tina Tchen, Executive Director, White House Council on Women & Girls
- Hilda Solis, US Department of Labor Secretary
- Dolores Huerta, Co-Founder, United Farm Workers
- Jehmu Greene, President, Women’s Media Center
- Megan Evans, National President, Medical Students for Choice
