HERvotes: Reject the Disenfranchisement of the Working Class

August 29, 2011 by Laura Kacere Leave a Comment
Capitol

This blog is part of the #HERvotes blog carnival. As voter suppression laws in states throughout the country threaten to disenfranchise millions of voters, it is imperative to look at how the groups targeted by these laws also have a stake in the very issues at the heart of the upcoming election.  Decisions affecting access [...]

New Abortion Billboard in Atlanta Targets African American Leaders

August 22, 2011 by Francesca Witcher Leave a Comment
antiabortion-billboard5

Not again. Another anti-abortion billboard was put on display by the Restoration Project in Atlanta last week, this time targeting African American leader Jesse Jackson. The billboard reads “What does it mean to be betrayed?” with “betrayed” written in blood-scripted letters. What’s even more insulting is The Restoration Project’s domain for their website: www.abortioninthehood.com. It [...]

Summer of Choice Unites Community Abortion Activists

August 9, 2011 by Sarah Shanks 4 Comments
summer of choice2

When word got out that Operation Rescue’s Summer of Mercy 2.0 was targeting Dr. LeRoy Carhart in Germantown, Maryland, we felt nothing but dread. Although I expected to see a lot of hate and woman-shaming this week, I was not expecting to leave this week feeling refreshed and empowered. Despite the anti-choice presence, the pro-choice [...]

**Trigger warning: This blog post discusses rape and the problems surrounding the rape kit backlog** Imagine that you have just experienced an incredibly traumatizing and horrific experience – you were raped.  Now imagine that, despite feeling powerless and needing to attempt to begin to heal, you immediately go to the hospital and spend up to [...]

July 26, 2011 by Sarah Shanks 1 Comment

Guest Post by Alexa Nelen, University of Central Florida When Operation Save America/Operation Rescue (OSA/OR) announced its plans for a “siege” of Orlando abortion clinics (July 16-23,) pro-choice allies did not wait long before taking action. This event drew around 40 anti-choice protestors, and organizations such as Feminist Majority Foundation, NOW, and local student groups [...]

Dismantling Imperialism and Working in Solidarity with Afghan Women

Afghan-women

A recent survey compiled by the Thomas Reuters Foundation found that Afghanistan is the world’s most dangerous country in which to be born a woman. Factors such as desperate poverty, inaccessible and poor health care, lack of education, and targeted violence toward female public officials led a panel of 200 gender experts to rank the country [...]

cpc protest

Hey feminists! It’s time to start mobilizing. It’s just one week until our “Don’t Be Fooled by Fake Clinics” National Week of Action taking place the week leading up to April Fool’s Day (March 28th to April 1st). What is a fake clinic and why should we expose it, you ask? Crisis Pregnancy Centers (CPCs) [...]

National Week of Action: Don’t get Tricked by CPCs!

HauntedHouse

It’s our CPC week of action! “Don’t Get Tricked, Get Treated” starts today! What are you doing for it? Crisis Pregnancy Centers pose as comprehensive women’s health clinics and advertise under “abortion” and “family planning” services, but do not offer abortion services, contraception, or referrals. Instead, they have an anti-choice agenda and tell women misinformation [...]

Bonjour Campus Choices! Meghan here, and this is my first of many posts as the newest member of Choices Campus Leadership Program’s team of National Campus Organizers. Although new to this position, I am no stranger to the dangers of clinic harassment and violence, or FMF’s work to assist in defending clinics against it. This [...]

Join our Adopt-a-Clinic Campaign!

April 13, 2010 by Jacqueline Sun Leave a Comment

It’s not news that our comprehensive women’s health clinics have been facing an escalated amount of anti-choice harassment and violence. With the election of a pro-choice president, the anti-abortion forces have vowed a “return to the streets” and upped their terrorism, evidenced by the 40 days for life campaign that just ended and the tragic [...]
