Time to Organize to Restore Abortion Access in North Carolina!

August 25, 2011 by Jacqueline Sun 1 Comment

The following blog post was written by Anneka Van Scoyoc from Queens University of Charlotte, North Carolina. She is currently an intern with the Feminist Majority Foundation’s National Clinic Access Project. A recent override of Governor Bev Perdue’s (D) veto on abortion legislation has made me reevaluate the “progressive” label I once gave to North Carolina. [...]

New Abortion Billboard in Atlanta Targets African American Leaders

August 22, 2011 by Francesca Witcher Leave a Comment

Not again. Another anti-abortion billboard was put on display by the Restoration Project in Atlanta last week, this time targeting African American leader Jesse Jackson. The billboard reads “What does it mean to be betrayed?” with “betrayed” written in blood-scripted letters. What’s even more insulting is The Restoration Project’s domain for their website: www.abortioninthehood.com. It [...]

They Say No Choice, We Say Pro Choice!

summer of mercy2

We were there because they were there. This is what we kept reiterating to those asking us why we would come out to Germantown, Maryland to spend 14-hour days holding signs in the hot sun – it was a necessary response to the presence of Operation Rescue and other anti-choice activists who came with local [...]

Anti-choice activists have gathered in Germantown, Maryland this week to target a man, a clinic, and a woman’s right to choose. Beginning this past Sunday, Dr. Leroy Carhart and his clinic, Germantown Reproductive Health Services, has become the main target of the anti-choice group Operation Rescue’s “Summer of Mercy 2.0.” Their intent, to shut down [...]

Guest Post by Alexa Nelen, University of Central Florida When Operation Save America/Operation Rescue (OSA/OR) announced its plans for a “siege” of Orlando abortion clinics (July 16-23,) pro-choice allies did not wait long before taking action. This event drew around 40 anti-choice protestors, and organizations such as Feminist Majority Foundation, NOW, and local student groups [...]

Voice Your Support for Teen Birth Control Access!

By Jessica Stites It’s been a refreshing week of sanity around birth control. First the Institute of Medicine announced that birth control should count as “preventive care” and be covered by insurance at no cost. And now, in response to a Good Morning America segment on the “debate” about whether mothers should let their teen [...]

Summer of Choice pic

Having had an abortion when I was just 18 and totally unprepared for an unplanned pregnancy, I am reminded every time new legislation is passed that limits abortions or anti-abortion activists harass women and clinics that this choice is not something to take for granted, that, unfortunately, a fight is required to maintain this legal [...]

By Christie Thompson The weeklong Operation Rescue/Operation Save America (OR/OSA) “siege” of Orlando has just two days left, and area women’s health care providers have successfully remained open and operating throughout. The anti-abortion extremist group targeted seven different clinics over the course of the week, surrounding offices and harassing both staff and patients. Organizers from [...]

By Kari Paul In a huge victory for women’s health, an Institute of Medicine (IOM) report today advised that birth control and seven other women’s health services should be considered “preventive care” and be covered by health insurance with no co-pay. The institute’s recommendations for no-cost coverage also include yearly preventative-care visits; lactation counseling and [...]
