Speak Out Against Virginia’s TRAP Laws

August 31, 2011 by Sarah Shanks 1 Comment
Virginia Coalition to Protect Women's Health

In Virginia abortion clinics might soon close at an alarming rate due to legislation requiring they be regulated like hospitals. In March, Governor McDonnell signed SB 924, a bill that classifies women’s health centers in the state as a category of hospitals, making them subject to new regulations created by the Department of Health. These [...]

Time to Organize to Restore Abortion Access in North Carolina!

The following blog post was written by Anneka Van Scoyoc from Queens University of Charlotte, North Carolina. She is currently an intern with the Feminist Majority Foundation’s National Clinic Access Project. A recent override of Governor Bev Perdue’s (D) veto on abortion legislation has made me reevaluate the “progressive” label I once gave to North Carolina. [...]

New Abortion Billboard in Atlanta Targets African American Leaders

August 22, 2011 by Francesca Witcher Leave a Comment
antiabortion-billboard5

Not again. Another anti-abortion billboard was put on display by the Restoration Project in Atlanta last week, this time targeting African American leader Jesse Jackson. The billboard reads “What does it mean to be betrayed?” with “betrayed” written in blood-scripted letters. What’s even more insulting is The Restoration Project’s domain for their website: www.abortioninthehood.com. It [...]

Summer of Choice is Over — What Now?

Campus Team at Germantown - FEATURE

So you’ve read Sarah’s blog about the amazing pro-choice support for Summer of Choice and Laura’s blog about the anti-choice extremists who are targeting providers and clinics here in Germantown and across the country. I know what you’re thinking – what can I do to take action, fight back, and protect access to comprehensive women’s [...]

Summer of Choice Unites Community Abortion Activists

summer of choice2

When word got out that Operation Rescue’s Summer of Mercy 2.0 was targeting Dr. LeRoy Carhart in Germantown, Maryland, we felt nothing but dread. Although I expected to see a lot of hate and woman-shaming this week, I was not expecting to leave this week feeling refreshed and empowered. Despite the anti-choice presence, the pro-choice [...]

Summer of Choice: Show Your Support and Thanks to the Doctors, Clinics, and Your Right to Choose

Summer of Choice pic

Having had an abortion when I was just 18 and totally unprepared for an unplanned pregnancy, I am reminded every time new legislation is passed that limits abortions or anti-abortion activists harass women and clinics that this choice is not something to take for granted, that, unfortunately, a fight is required to maintain this legal [...]

Defending Choice in Charlotte

charlotte clinic

Every Saturday morning members of the Feminist Union at UNC Charlotte gather on East Hebron Street in front of Family Reproductive Health, a comprehensive women’s health care clinic, prepared to brave the elements and the antis. Anti-abortion extremists such as Flip Benham, leader of Operation Rescue/Operation Save America, who was found guilty this week of [...]

Join our Adopt-a-Clinic Campaign!

April 13, 2010 by Jacqueline Sun Leave a Comment

It’s not news that our comprehensive women’s health clinics have been facing an escalated amount of anti-choice harassment and violence. With the election of a pro-choice president, the anti-abortion forces have vowed a “return to the streets” and upped their terrorism, evidenced by the 40 days for life campaign that just ended and the tragic [...]

Abortion Democracy: Poland/South Africa

April 13, 2010 by Guest Blogger Leave a Comment

Guest post by Allie McDonald At least 80,000 women die annually as a result of botched abortions. But abortion, when performed under safe and legal conditions, poses fewer health risks than carrying a pregnancy to term and giving birth.  So why are women dying needlessly? The documentary film, Abortion Democracy: Poland/South Africa, by Sarah Diehl, [...]

Do You Feel Lucky? What Unwanted Pregnancy Meant In the 1960s

April 1, 2010 by Guest Blogger Leave a Comment

Guest post by Ilona Globa The battle between pro-choice and pro-life (or anti-choice) protesters seems to be waging at overwhelming extremes lately. And as an intern here at FMF, I have taken part in writing updates dealing with abortion bills being passed state by state, on a weekly basis. However, of all the writing I [...]
