Feminists in Virginia: Women’s health centers need us more than ever before.

Next week on Thursday, September 17th, the Virginia Board of Health will meet to vote on the proposed amendments to “TRAP” restrictions.  Join your Feminist Campus team and activists from across the state as we stand with Virginia women’s health centers!

Reproductive rights activists have made huge strides in turning back “TRAP” restrictions.  Dangerous and medically unnecessary TRAP regulations are designed to shutter health centers and cut off access to reproductive health care in the Commonwealth.

These regulations would require women’s clinics to spend millions of dollars on changes to their facilities, such as the addition of parking, replacing existing ceilings, and adding showers to all facilities for staff members.  None of these costly changes improve patient care or safety.  The regulations, however, jeopardize women’s health care, especially for low-income women and people of color, by forcing clinics to close.

Back in December, we were there with activists and health care professionals when the Board of Health agreed to amend politically-motivated TRAP restrictions.  But the fight is not over!

You and I know that anti-women’s health zealots will go to any length possible to threaten abortion providers and attack women’s health. Unable to make abortion illegal, these extremists are trying to make reproductive health care impossible to access — this time by targeting women’s health centers with impossible-to-meet restrictions. They’re even using the widely-discredited and biased attack against Planned Parenthood to push these medically-unnecessary restrictions and force Virginia women’s health centers to shut down!

We can’t let them succeed. The Board of Health vote will be incredibly close, and with the fate of Virginia’s abortion providers hanging in the balance, we need you there more than ever before. RSVP to join us on September 17th to keep Virginia women’s health centers open!

We have opportunities to support students when it comes to lodging and transportation.  If you want to join us to protect our health centers but have questions about logistics, PLEASE email me, Alyssa at [email protected]!  We would love to help you!
