Feminist Job Description

Job Title: Executive Director
Organization: NARAL Pro-Choice Montana
Region: Northwest
Description: NARAL Pro-Choice Montana seeks a dynamic and skilled Executive Director to lead the organization in fulfilling its role as the political leader of the reproductive rights movement in Montana. NARAL Pro-Choice Montana is the state's largest grassroots organization dedicated solely to reproductive rights, and has been working to protect choice in Montana for more than 30 years.

Job Description

Summary:
The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors and oversees the administrative, financial and programmatic management of NARAL Pro-Choice Montana. The organization includes NARAL Pro-Choice Montana (501 c4 organization focusing on political and policy work), NARAL Pro-Choice Montana Foundation (501 c3 organization focusing on research and education, and the Pro-Choice Political Action Committee (PAC) (works to elect pro-choice candidates and defeat anti-choice candidates). The Executive Director oversees the development and execution of the annual fundraising plan, including membership development, grant writing, event planning, and major donor acquisition; oversees research and public education; works with the PAC committee to develop and coordinate an electoral plan that includes endorsing and helping to elect pro-choice candidates and coordinating lobbying efforts at the legislature; oversees the statewide Reproductive Rights Coalition; recruits, trains, coordinates and supervises staff; and works with the Board of Directors to maintain a financially healthy organization.

Responsibilities:
Electoral
-Works with the PAC committee to identify legislative priorities; establishes and implements electoral goals and lobbying plans
-Works with political allies
-Oversees lobbying agenda, coordinates lobbying effort at the state capitol, and works with legislators on pro-active pro-choice public policy and to safeguard against anti-choice policy initiatives

Board
-Helps to recruit, train, and develop Board members and organizational leaders for the C-3, C-4, and PAC Boards
-Works with the Boards of Directors on policy issues and to set organizational priorities
-Organizes the annual board training retreat
-Works with the Board of Directors to ensure they are able to make informed, democratic decisions and follow the policies and standards set up by the organizations by-laws

Fundraising
-Works in conjunction with Development Director to develop and implement a comprehensive fund raising plan including membership recruitment, major donor program, grant writing, and organizing special events
-Designs, edits, and produces persuasive and fundraising mail pieces and develops organizational messages to reach target communities
-Cultivates and maintains major donor relationships

Administration and Management
-Provides financial management and oversight and regular financial reports to the Board of Directors
-In conjunction with the Board, develops and adheres to an annual budget
-Recruits, trains, coordinates, and supervises staff; conducts annual performance reviews
-Works with organizers to develop and implement grassroots organizing plan.
-Provides oversight for day-to-day operation of the organization including record keeping, database management and tracking programmatic goals, including meeting benchmarks.
-Delegates administrative duties such as mail, filing, database entry, thank you notes, office cleaning, mass mailings, etc.
-Maintains internal and external communications; designs and implements evaluation processes to monitor the progress and success of the organization; maintains records of activities, meetings, membership, and donor lists in order to coordinate and/or perform organizational activities
-Responsible for filing all legal documentation including tax returns

Public Relations
-Coordinates communication with members and key constituencies through newsletters, action alerts, website, and the media
-Represents the organization in a professional manner
-Coordinates and supervises research, education, program, and public policy projects
-Acts as primary spokesperson and source of information for the media
-Establishes and implements a comprehensive media plan
-Develops positive organizational relationships with elected officials, candidates, allies and coalition partners, members of the media, donors, foundations, and members of the public

Coalition Building
-Helps to identify and recruit new coalition partners, allies, and candidates
-Reviews issues and trends in reproductive health and public policy; assesses barriers; designs, develops, and oversees implementation of coalition projects; meets with coalition members and uses knowledge and experience in order to provide leadership and direction for coalition projects
-Works with members, community groups, student chapters, coalitions, and Board of Directors to develop strategic issue campaign and fundraising plans and ensure that these plans are carried out; facilitates planning and decision making regarding the implementation and development of the strategic and operations plans, including resource allocations

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:
-Bachelors Degree in planning, public administration, business, social sciences, law, project management or related field, or equivalent level of work experience
-At least two years of progressively responsible management or supervisory experience

General Qualifications:
-Commitment to reproductive freedom and mission of NARAL Pro-Choice Montana
-Successful fundraising experience, including foundation and major donor giving
-Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
-Computer literacy
-Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
-Ability to work under pressure; skill at being productive in a fast-paced political environment
-Ability to work overtime, weekends, and evenings, as needed
-Excellent oral and written communication skills
-Skill at recruiting, motivating and managing volunteers and Board of Directors
-Possession of a valid MT driver's license and personal transportation

Additional Information:
Position is full-time. Main office is in Helena; statewide travel required. Salary commensurate with experience.
