Class Action is a small but inspiring national non-profit that raises awareness of the harm caused by classism (prejudice based on social class). We put out a vision of a world without classism, where everyone is treated with respect and everyone has enough. Our program work includes popular education workshops, first-generation student support groups, publications, Classism Exposed blog, and a website. We are connected with a bigger national non-profit, the Institute for Policy Studies.

INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION

This intern will conduct campaigns increase Class Action's electronic following for Class Action's Facebook pages, Twitter feed, Classism Exposed blog, and website; post and share new content; do Search Engine Optimization; improve the Facebook page; solicit cross-links; build listserv; look for classism in the news and popular culture and find links to post.

An intern with graphic design skills or interest in learning them will also create the layout for Class Action and IPS promotional brochures, event flyers and other materials, as well as improving look of web pages. This will be a great resume builder for a student who wants tangible products to show future employers.

When? Any 10 to 12 weeks of spring semester 2013; Flexible hours from 8 to 16 hours a week, totaling 120+ hours.
Continuation into summer is an option.

Where? The Brewery, 30 Germania St, Jamaica Plain - a lively non-profit center in Boston. Some work may be done offsite at location of intern's convenience.

Transportation costs reimbursed. Wages available for students with Federal Work-Study awards. Otherwise, interns committing 150+ hours total, whose schools are not providing funding or course credit, may apply for a modest stipend, based on need.

Internship Requirements:

Experience using social media and updating websites
Good persuasive and technical writing skills
For design internship: Graphic design skills. Please submit design samples.
Not required, but a plus: html; WordPress; other website design skills; programming interactive web features; PR, sales or other persuasive communications experience; Passion for social and economic justice.
