Job Title: Senior Assault Prevention and Intervention Specialist

Description: Position Overview:
A Rape Crisis Assault Prevention/Intervention Specialist acts as a primary support source for victims of sexual assault and/or their significant others, as well as survivors of childhood sexual assault. This position aims to empower victims in their recovery from traumatic events to aid in their ability to heal from sexual violence.

Intervention responsibilities include: providing crisis intervention and referral services to hotline callers; offering peer-counseling services to victims of sexual assault and their significant others; accompanying victims to the hospital as they go through a medical exam; serving as an advocate for sexual assault victims throughout the reporting/criminal investigative process and the legal system.

Prevention Responsibilities include: facilitating educational workshops in assault prevention for diverse community groups, including K-12; educating community members on the realities of sexual assault; facilitating groups for students and adults and participating in community awareness events.

Additional responsibilities include maintaining on-call availability and supervision of hotline volunteers. As an on-call staff member, the Prevention/Intervention Specialist responds to crisis hotline and hospital calls, as well as providing support for volunteers. The Prevention/Intervention Specialist also helps facilitate the bi-annual 40-hour Rape Crisis Volunteer Training and has direct contact/supervision with volunteers.

Qualifications:
Excellent organizational, communication and public speaking skills are essential; as well as an ability to work with diverse groups, including high-risk youth and law enforcement. A high level of professional interpersonal skills are a must.

An ability to connect with clients in crisis is needed. Must be able to work individually and be a team player. Ability to take initiative and partake in various office projects.
Previous experience in a crisis intervention or social services environment. A valid California driver's license and reliable transportation must be available for business use. Computer skills, including Microsoft Office proficiency, are a plus. Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience desired. Bi-lingual and Cultural Competency preferred.

Job Duties - Following completion of required 40- hour Rape Crisis Advocate training which we provide, the job duties for this position include:
"Share responsibility for responding to crisis hotline (on-call response duties)"; Accompanying victims to the hospital as they go through a medical exam; "Advocate for sexual assault victims throughout the reporting/criminal investigative process, and the legal system"; Help recruit, train and maintain volunteer base; "Provide follow-up services for clients"; Facilitate support/educational groups for students and adults; "Provide peer-counseling sessions for clients and their support system"; Facilitate prevention education workshops for students (K-12th grades); "Facilitate prevention education workshops for adults in community (teachers, parents, community- based organizations, etc.)"; Conduct review and "talk-time" with youth and adults as needed; "Data collection and analysis"; Report writing and presentation design; "Compliance with State of California Mandated Reporting Laws"; Other duties as required by Program Director.

Hours: 30 - 40 hours a week -- some weekend and evening work required.
