Arab Women's Solidarity Association
The Arab Women's Solidarity Association is a progressive organization founded in Egypt in 1982 by Nawal El Saadawi. Association of Albanian Girls and Women
The Association of Albanian Girls and Women (AAGW), a non-profit humanitarian organization that empowers victims of human trafficking, is launching a national fundraising campaign to assist these girls and women in reintegrating into Albanian society. This worldwide problem has affected more than 6,000 Albanians and claims more victims every day. The Association of Albanian Girls and Women was founded in 2002 by Amy Sebes at the main trafficking shelter in Tirana. A veteran teacher throughout the world and the mother of a young daughter, Ms. Sebes got involved with victims after developing an anti-trafficking curriculum that is now taught in schools throughout Albania. She and her husband, Tom, who is with the U.S. Embassy in Tirana, have been in Albania since August, 2002. A primary aim of AAGW is to help victims of trafficking reintegrate into Albanian society. AAGW promotes this goal by supporting job training, job placement, and handicraft production programs. Equally important, since AAGW is an organization run by and for trafficked women, its daily operation also offers important leadership and managerial experience and provides a voice for this marginalized group in Albanian society. AAGW is a tool for personal empowerment. These young women are the experts on trafficking; they know best how to determine their own needs and propose solutions for lasting change. AAGW gives them this opportunity.

The purpose of the FGM Education and Networking Project is the dissemination on-line and offline of material related to female genital mutilation, otherwise known as female circumcision. Femmes Africa Solidarité
Femmes Africa Solidarité (FAS) is a women’s organisation founded in June 1996 by African women leaders representing different nationalities and professions. The International Data for Evaluation of Abortion Services, or IDEAS, website is designed to serve as a resource for reproductive health-care providers and advocates worldwide (http://ideas.ipas.org). Presently, the IDEAS database contains information for 17 countries. This information includes: general country statistics; abortion laws and policies; reproductive-health data; data on abortion(to the extent that it exists); data on the training of health practitioners and equipping of health-care facilities to provide safe abortion care; links to information sources; and a bibliography of resources. Major categories include late breaking news, background information, lists of other Beijing-realted web sites, and copies of Earth Negotiations Bulletin. There are a lot of long documents available on this comprehensive site, many of which are geared toward actual conference participants (subway maps, visa information). In addition, there is extensive follow-up information to the 1994 Cairo Conference on Population and Development. In part because hyperlinks are scattered throughout a series of paragraph narratives, navigating the overall site requires a disproportionate amount of on-line time. On top of everything else, this site now includes Voices from Beijing (using Real Audio technology), and Images from Beijing!

OSKa- The National Women's Information Center
This Polish site comes from a non-governmental, non-profit organization and works with Polish women-related organizations and initiatives. They deal with such issues as the law, policy developments, economics, the media and public opinion.

People Opposing Women Abuse (POWA)
People Opposing Women Abuse was established in 1979 as a response to the high levels of violence against women experienced in the community. POWA has thus, effectively been operational for the past 26 years. POWA is based in Berea, in the Johannesburg inner city area. We serve the entire Gauteng, and have branches in Katlehong and Vosloorus in the East Rand, Sebokeng in the Vaal and Soweto. Our clients are drawn mainly from the Magisterial districts of Johannesburg, Pretoria, Vereeniging, Soweto, Wynberg, Randburg, Germiston, Thokoza, Kempton Park and all the West Rand areas. Our helpline takes calls nationally, although we deal mainly with women in the Gauteng Province. POWA was the first organisation in Gauteng to set up a shelter for abused women in 1984. We currently run a shelter in the West Rand that accommodates 10 women and their children at a time, and have recently opened our second shelter, with the same capacity, on the East Rand. Although abuse of women happens across all sectors of society, our target is primarily women who come from communities with limited or no resources at all, or those who cannot afford alternative resources in their areas. These areas are some of those that historically have poor infrastructure such as no street lighting, unsafe public transport areas etc. This in turn encourages the increase in crime, particularly crimes against women. These communities are also characterised by limited employment opportunities, overcrowding, lack of educational facilities, extensive HIV/AIDS related issues and alcoholism. All these factors impact very strongly on violence against women.

The number and variety of links is impressive. The site also contains information on Russian women's literature and art on the net, women in Russia and other countries in East-Central Europe and e-mail lists.

WomenWatch is a joint initiative of three entities in the UN system specifically devoted to women's issues: DAW, UNIFEM, & INSTRAW. The site serves as a gateway to UN information and data on women world wide and an evolving forum on global women's issues in the follow-up to the FWCW and constitutes an electronicspace for exchange of information and ideas on women's issues.
