Between Us: First Aid kits for the hearts and souls of women newly diagnosed with breast cancer
Between Us provides first aid kits for women newly diagnosed with breast cancer which include videos, handbooks, comfort items and information designed to provide hope, inspiration, and empowerment.

Breast Cancer Options
Most women who are newly diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer can choose a lumpectomy (which removes just the cancer and a small area around it) rather than a mastectomy (which removes the entire breast). A lumpectomy followed by radiation treatment is just as safe and effective as mastectomy, and usually not as physically and emotionally traumatic. And yet, many women undergo the more radical surgery -- sometimes without knowing their options. If you or someone you care about is facing a breast cancer diagnosis and want to learn more, click here: http://www.center4policy.org/bc071502.html. BreastCancerStories.com
We would be honored if you would consider including a link to BreastCancerStories.com on the Feminist Majority Foundation website so people everywhere going through breast cancer, as well as their loved ones, can take advantage of this new, free, valuable resource. Thank you so much, Wendy McCoole, Executive Director & Survivor BreastCancerStories.com 603-759-5640 www.BreastCancerStories.com Wendy@BreastCancerStories.com ====================================== BreastCancerStories.Com Launches Online Community to Help Patients and Loved Ones Communicate During a Difficult Time Website Helps Those Touched by Breast Cancer to Write, Read, and Share Their Stories with Family, Friends and One Another PORTSMOUTH, NH (June 1, 2006)—BreastCancerStories.com today announced the launch of its website intended to help those going through breast cancer to communicate with loved ones and with one another while they are going through treatment. Breast cancer patients are provided with their own unique web address where they can write and upload diary entries and photos whenever they feel the need to write. Friends and family members can visit their loved one’s website whenever they want, follow their story, and leave messages of support. Newly diagnosed breast cancer patients can search through an index of stories based on age, location, type of cancer and type of treatment, find someone similar to them, and follow their story, helping them to not feel quite so alone. BreastCancerStories.com was developed to further enhance the support systems that are already in place today. Being available 24 hours a day allows breast cancer patients and their loved ones to write and read anytime of the day or night. Newly diagnosed women and men also benefit from the website as they are able to read the stories of others going through a similar diagnosis and understand that they are not alone in their fight. “BreastCancerStories.com is the mechanism that brings both patient and loved one together enabling them to communicate and stay in touch via the Internet, at their own pace, when it's comfortable for them,” says Wendy McCoole, Executive Director. “It can be difficult knowing what to say or how often and by creating a place for breast cancer patients to write about their experiences and share their thoughts with friends and family members, as well as with newly diagnosed breast cancer patients, is such an incredible support resource.” “BreastCancerStories.com benefits anyone who is touched by breast cancer - either directly or indirectly,” says Sue Gosselin, MSN, RN, OCN, Director of the Hematology and Oncology Center at Portsmouth Regional Hospital. “Providing patients, family members, friends and even clinicians with the ability to read what others are going through will help to bridge that gap of uncertainty.” The website was conceived by Ms. McCoole early in 2005. Shortly after she was diagnosed with breast cancer she started on online diary to keep family and friends updated as she progressed through her treatments. The website was passed on and read by many hundreds of people, at which time she decided to create a similar site so others could share their stories as well. About BreastCancerStories.com BreastCancerStories.com is a non-profit organization providing a free online community for those diagnosed with breast cancer to write, read, and share their journey with loved ones and with one another. Visit the website at www.breastcancerstories.com. # # #

WomenSpeak Project
Dear Content Director, I’m writing to request inclusion of WomenSpeak.com as a reciprocal link on your Web site. Based in Springfield, Missouri, the site was established in 2001. The WomenSpeak Project seeks to help women feel better about getting older. Clinical psychologist Nancy O’Reilly, PsyD, founded the WomenSpeak Project in response to her landmark research into women’s perceptions and attitudes about aging. To date, Dr. O’Reilly’s research with more than 1,100 women has shown that nearly half of us are frightened and ashamed of our aging process. Although they may joke about it, women rarely discuss their fears in a way that can help them overcome their anxieties. WomenSpeak.com gives women a: • Platform for sharing and exploring ways to be happier as we mature • View of concerns expressed by women of all ages for their health, finances, relationships and in in(s) and out(s) of their fears of aging • Chance to help each other by speaking honestly about our fears • Source for Help Yourself information about health, finances, relationships and aging • Place to read peer-reviewed research about attitudes toward aging(American Journal of Health Behavior & American Psychological Association July 2004 annual meeting) • Opportunity to collaborate on research on aging and to be part of the book in progress, WomenSpeak: Feeling Good About Getting Older Please let me know if we will be included on your site. I will be happy to provide any other information you need to make your decision Sincerely, Maggie Castrey WomenSpeak Editor 417-883-3525 mcastrey@mchsi.com
