Unhindered Childbirth - The Online Childbirth Class
Women have turned to midwifery as an alternative to the traditionally male-dominated, medicalized and intervention-rapt school of childbirth. But why should a woman turn over her power to give birth to ANYONE, man or woman, midwife or OB? Women have learned to give up control of their births to other people, something that the majority have come to know as either the only option, or the only SAFE option. Neither is true. Regardless of whether women give birth alone, accompanied by a midwife or in the care of a hospital team, women need to be armed with knowledge so that they can birth safely and recognize complications, should one arise, Information must be freely available so that women can regain control of their births. This site was an indispensible resource when I was conducting research to prepare for my own unassisted birth (took place August 2, 2005, at home, alone, in my bathtub).
