The Feminist Majority Foundation just pulled their annual Global Women’s Rights Awards, co-chaired by Jay and Mavis Leno, from the Beverly Hills Hotel because the hotel’s owner – the Sultan of Brunei, Hassanal Bolkiah – is imposing Taliban-like laws that include the stoning to death of LGBT folks and the public flogging of women who have abortions, as well as the jailing of women who have sex outside of marriage. This code is set to go into effect in three stages – and implementation began May 1. These policies are unthinkably unjust, and we need to be seen – and heard – in order to end them.
That’s where you come in. We need your help! Here’s how you can take action and mobilize to end these unjust and inhumane laws.
Sign The Petition
Take action now to stop the imposition of these Taliban-like laws by signing our petition. Letters are sent to Sultan Bolkiah, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, the Brunei Embassy, and the US Embassy to Brunei every time someone signs on. Thousands have come forward to take action with us – and you should be one of them!
Rally With Us May 5
If you’re able to, you can also join us for a rally on May 5 across from the Beverly Hills Hotel. You’ll be in good company with speakers like Ellie Smeal, Dolores Huerta, Jay Leno, and more!
Spread The Word!
Use the hashtag #StopTheSultan on Twitter and Facebook to join the ongoing conversation about how we can all play a part in restoring human rights to Brunei.
Don’t wait one minute to act. Lives are on the line, and it’s up to us to right this incredible wrong. Let’s do this thing, y’all!
