(Can’t join us in DC? Here’s 5 ways to join the fight to #StopKavanaugh wherever you are.)
As young people, students, and youth-led + serving organizations, we are furious.
The nomination of Brett Kavanaugh threatens us all. But as young folks, we face the possibility of a SCOTUS Justice who would deny our rights and harm our communities for decades to come.
The four days of Senate hearings last week only reinforced what we already knew: our identities and experiences are under attack. For young women, queer and gender-nonconforming folx, people of color, immigrants, survivors, and people with disabilities, the stakes have never been higher.
We know exactly what this appointment could mean for our lifetimes. What it means for us in our reproductive lives, as we enter the workforce, the loss of protections from discrimination, the threats to our ability to live our authentic lives, the denial of healthcare – the list goes on and on as the hard-earned rights that earlier generations fought to secure could be rolled back.
Let’s be honest. Many communities in this country have never had equitable access to these rights in the first place. Instead of working to expand and promote justice for all, Brett Kavanaugh would dismantle critical protections and plunge us further into oppression.
We cannot and will not go back. Our futures are on the line.
We refuse to watch helplessly or remain on the sidelines as our freedoms are denied. That’s why we’re speaking out tonight: Thursday, September 13, at 6 PM outside of the Supreme Court. For Our Futures is a rally by and for young people to send the message: we’re young, rad, unapologetic, and we sure as hell aren’t backing down.
