FMF Interns Rally for Obamacare

June 29, 2012 by Gabriella Ibacache Leave a Comment

Yesterday the FMF summer interns donned our pink “This is What a Feminist Looks Like” t-shirts, grabbed our rally signs, and marched through the thick D.C. heat to the steps of the Supreme Court, ready to show support for Obamacare.

We joined other women’s rights activists from Planned Parenthood, NARAL Pro-Choice America, National Nurses United, and National Family Planning and Health Association. We held our signs high in the air and shouted chants like “Hands off our Obamacare!” “Health care works for you, health care works for me, health care works for every American family!” loud enough to overpower the group of anti-choicers next to us.

When the announcements were made that the individual mandate survived and that the whole healthcare law was upheld as constitutional, the crowd around us erupted in triumphant shrieks. We chanted “Yes we can! Yes we DID!” and laughed with relief and delight that the lives and health of millions of Americans will be protected under Obamacare.

We’re so excited that we were able to participate in such a historic moment.
